 College Counseling
College Rep. Visits
Each year throughout the fall and early winter, the Thacher College Counseling Office welcomes and hosts representatives from outstanding colleges and universities nationwide (and a few international) who come to our campus to meet with our students. In informal gatherings on the patio or around a lunch table, they talk with Thacher juniors and seniors (and occasionally the curious sophomore) about their programs and schools. In the 2008-09 admission cycle, Thacher welcomed ninety-plus representatives—from Middlebury (VT), Colgate (NY), University of Pennsylvania, Tufts (MA), Colorado College, Pomona (CA), Northeastern (MA), Kenyon (OH), Princeton (NJ), Columbia (NY), Boston University (MA), and Amherst (MA), to name just a few.
Each spring, on the traditional Thacher-Cate College Day, a group of college deans of admission assembles on either our campus or Cate’s to meet with the juniors from both schools. In small groups facilitated by the deans, the students review and discuss a series of college applications. It's an effective and positive way to introduce and demystify the college review process for students. After these sessions, students are given an opportunity to meet with the deans to talk further about their individual institutions.
