7:15…
I leave my dorm and head up to the barns to muck my horse’s stall and feed him. He always nickers as I get close to his corral. When I’m finished, I walk back to the dorm, shower, change, and head for breakfast.
8:15…
After I check in with the teacher on duty, I have breakfast with my friends. (Robin, the baker, made blueberry muffins today.) We talk about the Physics boat project we’re working on; we each have a partner, and we have to build a small boat that will actually stay afloat.
8:30…
I head to English class, where we are discussing Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. We read a poem with the same title by Angelou and talk about how it connects with her autobiography.
10:00…
Onto Math class. I like the way we get to practice in teams at the white board; it helps me understand concepts a whole lot better than just working at my seat.
10:45…
At Assembly I sit with other freshmen and watch a short skit about the all-School foursquare tournament on Friday night. We start to think about getting a team together for the big event.
11:10…
One of the choices at lunch today is chili in bread bowls; I pile on the cheese, make a salad, and relax awhile with friends.
12:15…
In Physics class my partner and I test the buoyancy of our boat (it’s a Mississippi paddle boat) and finish epoxying several spots that looked like they might be leaky. Tomorrow we’ll test our boat down at the pool before giving it an official run.
1:00…
I have a free period, so I go back to my room for some quiet time. I start my Math homework for tomorrow and check my e-mail.
1:45…
Intro to Arts with Mr. Jensen. It’s the drama part of the course, and we’re working hard on our improvisation skills. Next week we’ll start creating a final video project that we will present to the entire school at Assembly.
3:15…
After classes I change into my boots and jeans and head to the barns for riding. After saddling up my horse, I take a short trail ride with a couple of friends (we’ve all passed our Rider’s Test). We wind up at the Gymkhana Field, where we practice some of the events we’ll be competing in.
5:20…
I return my horse to his stall and feed him. (We all have to feed our horses at 5:00, or some get jealous.)
6:15…
After a shower, I change into my formal dinner clothes and head up to the Dining Hall. I’m over being nervous about sitting with upperclassmen. We all talk, and sometimes when it is my turn to serve, they help me.
7:00…
After formal, I head back to my dorm and hang out with some friends before hitting the books.
7:30…
Study Hall. I sit down to finish the homework I didn’t get done during my free periods today.
9:30…
Study break! I walk to the Oval to hang out with the other freshmen.
10:00…
I am at my door just as my prefect comes by for check-in.
10:15…
After getting ready for bed, I read for about ten minutes, then click off mylight. I’m asleep the second my head hits the pillow.
