Thacher believes in living an integrated life, one in which students can combine playing a sport and acting in a play, can ride a horse and master a musical instrument, can try lacrosse or take up painting.
Introductory courses (Studio Art 2-D and 3-D, drama, music) help students find connections between art and traditional academic disciplines. Moreover, they see how the arts act as a humanizing force in the world, now and in times past. More advanced courses hone the eye, the hand, the voice as students gain skill and confidence in their expressive capabilities.
Thacher students discover many paths into their own creativity. Advanced and specialized classes explore different branches of the arts, both theory and practice. Through classes and extra-curricular pursuits—drama productions, performing ensembles, cultural trips to museums and galleries—students come to realize their own unique artistic potential and that of others around them.
