Seniors Earn National Merit Honors

Sixteen students received top scores on the PSAT.
The National Merit Scholarship Program recently announced its roster of semifinalists and commended students, which, we’re proud to report, includes a number of exceptional Thacher students.

Over 1.6 million high schoolers took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October and entered the National Merit Scholarship Program. The highest scorers qualified for honors that acknowledge their outstanding potential for academic success.

National Merit Commended Students
National Merit commended students are among the top 5 percent of scorers in a pool of 1.6 million test takers. While they won’t advance to the final round of the Merit Scholarship competition, it’s an impressive academic achievement. Thacher commended students include:

Cara Marie Dienst
Edel Dupre Galgon
Ryan Lawrence Jackson
Steven Malcolm Jump
Elizabeth Holekamp Kern
Liam Reed Kirkpatrick
Isabel Ann Harding Ouweleen
Jordan Cunningham Perry

National Merit Semifinalists
National Merit semifinalists are among the highest scorers in the nation, representing less than 1 percent of test takers. These seniors have the chance to submit a detailed scholarship application in order to qualify to be a National Merit Finalist. The application will include academic record, school and extracurricular activities, leadership activities, and SAT scores, among other things. Thacher semifinalists include:

Emma Rose Freedman
Brendan Thomas Glenn
Serafina Maria Nieves
Clare Bridgitte Best Rogowski
Maya Marina Wilcox
Asher Buffett Duvall Wood

National Hispanic Recognition Program Students
The National Hispanic Recognition Program honors students of Hispanic/Latino heritage who have achieved both a qualifying high score on the SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in their junior year and who have earned a cumulative 3.5 or higher GPA by the middle of their junior year. Thacher students who earned this honor include:

Steven Malcolm Jump
Natalie Osuna
Peter Flynn Schmidt
Maya Marina Wilcox

A huge congratulations to these talented students!
