Creative Drug Education

Richard Ryan makes his annual visit to Thacher.
As part of the School's efforts to educate its students about the detrimental effects of teenage drug and alcohol use, we invite Richard Ryan to spend a week with us on campus each year. Richard is the founder of Creative Drug Education, which provides premier drug use and abuse awareness and prevention programs (including alcohol and other drugs) to students in independent secondary schools and colleges and universities. He has been an important figure in Thacher's drug and alcohol education program for many years.

During this year's stay, Richard met with each grade level at least once. In his meetings he tailored the broad scope of the topic at hand to each particular group. For example, the seniors spent much of their time discussing how to deal with the presence of drugs and alcohol on college and university campuses. Richard also made time to meet individually with students and faculty to help advise them on troubling situations at home, with friends, etc.

While speaking at Assembly Richard commented, "I'm always grateful to be back here...As you know this is my favorite school."
