8:15…
I don’t have to check in at breakfast, so I sleep in a little, get ready for class, and grab an apple and an egg-‘n’-muffin at the dining hall.
8:30…
I start my day with an English class called Coming of Age. This is an AP class, so there is a lot of reading. I like the class, though, because we look at how both contemporary and classic works of literature share the themes of coming of age. We do a mixture of analytical and personal writing, and I am thinking about an essay due at the end of the week.
9:15…
I use my free period to go to the college office for a meeting with Ms. Morales-Kent. We talk about where I am in the application process and what I plan to write about in my college essay.
10:00…
I settle into a comfortable chair in the lecture hall for AP Art History. We meet in this room so we can look at pieces of art and discuss them. Today we’re focusing on Vermeer—an artist I overheard a classmate talking about in her English class, some connection to the book they are reading.
10:45…
At Assembly I make an announcement about a community service beach clean-up that I’m helping to organize. I also meet with my advisor at the end of Assembly for a quick chat and let her know how I’m doing.
11:10…
At lunch I opt for the Fiesta Bar (I love the kitchen’s Mexican food), then sit down with my friends. Later I go back to my room to check my e-mail.
12:20…
I get to Honors Biology just in time. We’re studying the lymphatic system, and our teacher has us coloring different parts of the system to help us understand how everything works together.
1:05…
I meet with my Mexican History class in the library seminar room. The class is discussion based, and we meet around a large circular table so it’s really comfortable to talk.
1:40…
In Chinese 4 we are discussing a book—which is a challenge, because we speak only Chinese in the classroom!
2:25…
During my other free period, I get started on some reading for tomorrow.
3:35…
Head to the gym for basketball practice. Saturday, we’re up against Laguna Blanca, so we work on our full court press and run through our set plays.
6:15…
After showering and changing, it’s off to Formal Dinner, where I get to know some of the underclassmen at the table. (I wouldn’t have the chance to meet them so easily if we didn’t have formal.) At the end of dinner, I take my hot chocolate over to a table filled with classmates for a few minutes.
7:00…
Tonight it’s Literary Society at Mr. Robinson’s. We talk about each other’s poems and short pieces. I need the feedback, and I like the support and openness of the group.
7:30…
I take all my homework to the library, where I start to organize my ideas for my English essay. I also study for my Biology quiz tomorrow. After finishing this, I do a lot of reading for History and English.
9:45…
I stop by the Commons for some socializing before heading back to the dorm.
10:00…
After check-in, I host a munch-out in my room for the girls in the dorm. This is a great way for me to catch up with my prefectees and relax after a busy day.
12:00 midnight…
After cleaning up and then hanging with some of my friends in the dorm, it’s time for bed.
