Favorite Thacher tradition:
Spring Sing! A few seniors act as directors to stage a full-length play or musical that is entirely student-run. No one is cut from the cast, so it brings together an awesome group of people with varying comfort levels about being on stage. Plus, it’s usually pretty funny! Some past Spring Sings have been The Little Mermaid, Shrek, and Madagascar.
It’s a tie between the Chamber Singers and AP Latin. I love chamber with Mr. Haggard
; learning music with my choir is a nice break in the middle of the school days. AP Latin with Mr. Snyder
was a language, history, and English class all rolled into one. We read, analyzed, and discussed Virgil’s Aeneid
and Caesar’s De Bello Gallico.
Favorite afternoon activity:
While I love riding, I have greatly enjoyed the three trimesters I spent dancing
with Ms. Vickery
. The studio is gorgeous, with enormous floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the mountains. Ms. Vick keeps her classes interesting and varied: we might have a traditional ballet class one day and hip-hop the next!
Living and studying at Thacher:
I love the close bonds I’ve built with my teachers. I’m not sure how many kids can say that they eat three meals a day with their teachers, babysit their children, or go to their house when they need help on an assignment. Having these student-teacher connections makes for a more cohesive community as a whole.
