Thacher String Ensemble Earns Top Marks at Disneyland
Top marks in the Music in the Parks competition was a perfect ending to a fulfilling Thacher music career for the six seniors in the Thacher String Ensemble.
The Thacher String Ensemble performed in the Music in the Parks competition at Disneyland on April 27. Of the twenty ensembles that competed, the Thacher group received the highest score for an instrumental ensemble. The troupe, directed by Amy Hagan, includes six seniors: James C., Klara, Jason, Jamie, Defne, and Isabel, who Ms. Hagan says she will be sad to lose next year. For the the seniors, the performance was the highlight of their musical careers at Thacher. “After four years of hard work and leading the ensemble with this group of seniors, it meant a lot to get the highest appraisal our group has gotten in my four years here,” said violin player James C. ’19.
The group is rounded out by 13 additional musicians—juniors: Jose, Carina, James L, Lila, Bryan, Annika, Mateo, and George; sophomores: Jae and Elliot; and freshmen: Eileen, Elena, and Jennifer.
For the competition, the ensemble performed three pieces: The Ludlows by James Horner, arranged by John Moss; Hoe Down by Aaron Copeland, arranged by Stephen Bulla; and Rains of Castamere by Ramin Djawadi with cello played by Jamie ’19. After the competition, the musicians spent the day in Disneyland enjoying the rides, shows, and company of their friends.
