Highlights from February and March
Three days a week—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—the campus community gathers at Assembly to share information, hear a TOADTalk, or make announcements. The months of February and March brought many highlights from these tri-weekly events. 

Some of the many highlights include:

  • The boys of Los Padres took the community on a Pokemon adventure to announce their open house.
  • Introduction of visiting Anacapa Scholar Kiersten Todt Koon who visited classes and offered various talks about homeland security.
  • The Green Cup Challenge heads, Julianna Childs '13 and Jacqueline King '13, made weekly announcements on the standing of the dorms in their efforts to reduce energy consumption on campus. 
  • Winners of the freshman Horse Poem contest annouced. 3rd place: Hayden Howard; 2nd place: Reade Rossman; 1st place: Emma Robertson. For full story and winning poems click here.
  • TOADTalks on graduation speeches and maintaining optimism for the future, intelligence and creativity, children's books and being appreciative of your life, making and producing documentaries and trailers, personal privacy in an age of technology, and the importance of being a life-long learner.
  • The community welcomed back Boys' Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach Cam Spaulding CdeP 1992.
  • John Carey '15 was welcomed into the prestigious Silver Dollar Club.
  • The cast and crew of Spamalot performed a few short scenes to excite the community for the upcoming musical.

  • Skylar Lewis '15 achieved her Advanced Rider ranking.
  • Steve Huyler CdeP 1969 shared some history of the Huyler Chocolate Factory (1876-1940) that was run by Uncle Jack's grandfather for its first 50 years. Steve collected Huyler Chocolate memorabilia and placed them in the Brody Gallery as an exhibit for the community.
  • Annoucements pertaining to the kick-off of gymkhana season: captain selection, team picking, and the first gymkhana.
  • Fifth annual Jean Cut-Off Day.
  • Rich Harris announced a school holiday in honor of the birth of his twins Nnamdi and Udoamaka.
  • Teo Davis '14 earned his Horseman ranking.
  • David Chao '14 and Liam Carpenter-Urquhart '15 debated the legality of the death penalty and invited the community to participate in a survey to voice their opinions as well.
  • Brian Pidduck announced new B Campers: Leo Turpan '13, John Carey '15, Jon Chang '14, Annie LeFevre '14, Will Muir '13, Grant Ellman '14, Justin Myles '13, Willie Halsted '13, Kipper Berven '15, Madeline Taylor '14, Quincy Hunter-Daniel '14.
  • The senior class challenged the faculty to a game of dodgeball.
  • Paul Cresanta '13 played a segment of George Gershwin's Preludes for piano as a teaser for his independent project.
  • The freshman boys announced their Open House by doing a skit about a Thacher Dating Game with various bachelors seeking the perfect soul mate.
  • Rene Duykaerts announced that Daniel Kruth '13 and Lachlan Nutting '14 have achieved their B Horse Camper ranking.
  • Spring Sing directors Gracie Farese '13 and Kallie O'Connor '13 announced open auditions for Grease.
  • An impromptu sing-along to "Bohemian Rhapsody" led by Joel Sohn.
  • Sudden death roshambo contest.
  • New members of the Judicial Council announced: Raul Soto '14, Joanna Knutsen '14, and Teo Davis '14.
  • Kurt Meyer and Marvin Shagam announced the return of the Tom Swifty contest. The winners were:
Freshman - Nick Johnson: "Samurai Swords are not acceptable in Lower School," said Mrs. Meyer sharply.
Sophomore - Owen Yeager: "I do look a bit like my little sister, don't I," admitted Bradley gracefully.
Junior - Nayla Kidd: "I think I've forgotten all of the major neurotransmitters," cried the AP Biology student, nervously.
Senior - Amy Feldman: "Be sure to sketch a doe and her fawn for class tomorrow," said Ms. Mahoney endearingly.
Faculty/Staff - Chris Land: "Oopsie... I seem to have misplaced one of the twins again," said Ms. Pidduck lackadaisically.
