    Before I even knew that I wanted to become a teacher, my wife (Ellie Wilkinson CdeP 2008) and her family (including Tom Wilkinson CdeP 2010) insisted that I would fall in love with the school and want to teach there if I ever set foot on campus. Well, years later, they turned out to be right!

    You can’t beat the combination of excellent academics, natural splendor, and whole-student development.
  • When not in the classroom I can be found

    In a kitchen or a garden. Both places let me recharge by focusing on the task at hand and working with my hands and, in the end, you get something beautiful/delicious that you can share!
  • Since you asked me to brag, here are the professional accomplishments Im most proud of

    As a scientist: Creating a novel harmful algae bloom detector and designing and building everything from the physical components, to the circuit boards, to the software.

    As a coach: Leading a youth ultimate frisbee team to the league championship. We lost in OT, but I was so proud to see how much they had grown from complete beginners two years earlier.

    As a teacher: Every time I see a student light up as they begin to understand something.
  • Favorite place in my imagination

    The dream house I designed when I was in middle school, complete with a workshop, a room for science experiments (read: explosions), and chickens.
  • Favorite places on earth

    The Finger Lakes in Central New York, Puget Sound in Western Washington, and anywhere in France.
  • Hardly anybody knows that

    I love to sing, especially with other people. Also, I’m a huge history nerd.
  • The book, movie, work of art, or piece of music I cannot imagine life without

    Ocean Biogeochemical Dynamics by Sarmiento & Gruber—a work of science so beautiful and well-presented that I consider it art. It forever changed how I imagine the world.

    Someone who teaches inventors, and has many people at his table.
