I teach psychology, work in the college counseling office, and serve as the head of Lower School, where freshmen boys live.
What my students call me
Mrs. Meyer or sometimes Mama Meyer
I knew I wanted to work at Thacher when
I attended my children's mini-classes during Family Weekend back in 1996.
Favorite Thacher teaching moment
Every year I look forward to an exercise on Kohlberg's moral stages... I can count on a rousing argument when kids try to convince me that "I don't rat on my friends" is an example of the highest moral stage.
Favorite job perk
I'm out the door every morning before 7:00 to walk for an hour as Ojai is just waking up... the light, the birds, the smells... all contribute to a meditative moment that gives every day a good start.
Most memorable Thacher camping trip
Riding horseback on the beach (and having sand crabs crawl in my ears as I slept).
Hardly anybody knows that
I occasionally teach classes in Ukrainian Egg painting.
Favorite place at Thacher
Lower School porch at sunset.
Favorite places on earth
Winging my way to somewhere I've never visited.
What I wanted to be when I grew up (when I was 10)
I've always imagined myself as a teacher... and now I am!
What I want to be when I grow up (now)
I've got a pretty perfect life... I would not change a thing!
