Rhea Wong CdeP 1997
Rhea’s relationship with Breakthrough Collaborative, an organization that helps open up academic opportunities for talented underserved youth, started long before she became Breakthrough New York’s executive director in 2005. As a middle schooler in San Francisco, Rhea was a student in the program. Thanks to Breakthrough’s support, Rhea enrolled at Thacher and then went on to obtain a BA with honors from McGill University and a certificate in non-profit management from Columbia Business School. Her interest in opening doors for other students lead her to be a teaching fellow with Breakthrough while in high school and college; after graduating she worked at the Breakthrough Collaborative National Office in San Francisco. As the New York executive director, she’s significantly expanded their services, staff, budget, and the number of students served. She has also become a voice for education policies at the local, citywide, and national levels.
