I teach Spanish, coach boys’ varsity soccer, and serve as the sustainability coordinator.
What my students call me
I knew I wanted to work at Thacher when
I arrived in Ojai for my job interview and it was 80 degrees and sunny (compared to 20 degrees and snowing in Massachusetts).
Favorite Thacher teaching moment
When a Spanish I student this year was able to put together a complex concept that even my Spanish VI students have difficulties with.
Most memorable Thacher camping trip
In the Spring of 2014, while camping with nine freshman boys and Mr. Omansiek in the Southern Sierras, the group encountered a bear cub that was as curious as we were. That topped off a long and rewarding day of hiking in the beautiful wilderness of Little Kern Lake.
Since you asked me to brag, here’s the professional accomplishment I'm most proud of
My involvement with the creation of the sustainability council, which has created a new order and direction to the sustainability program at the School. More specifically, the planning, design and implementation of the new horse manure composting program and facility has significantly decreased Thacher’s impact on our natural environment while producing a resource that the School will use for years to come.
Hardly anybody knows that
I was the first one in my extended family to graduate from high school, let alone college and graduate school. Also, I worked as a hair color technician back in my home country, Costa Rica, while attending college.
Favorite places on earth
Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Specifically. It is like a tropical safari.
Favorite place in my imagination
Playing soccer with Lionel Messi at Football Club Barcelona.
What I wanted to be when I grew up (when I was 10)
A professional soccer player (like most Costa Rican boys).
