Let's Talk About...

Sex. Author Peggy Orenstein prompts dialogue and reflection in the community.
Peggy Orenstein, author of Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape, Cinderella Ate My Daughter, and Waiting For Daisy, spent the weekend on campus talking with members of the community about sex—consensual sex, healthy sex, sexuality, societal standards and their impact on sexual relationships, and more.

Senior Ava Penner interviewed Ms. Orenstein on stage in the Milligan Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday following Formal Dinner. The two discussed many of the topics listed above as well as her research process, how her research has impacted her relationship with her own daughter, and her upcoming book on boys and sex.

On Friday, Ms. Orenstien held open discussion sessions for students and faculty at various times throughout the day. These sessions were well-attended and reflected the communitys interest in becoming knowledgeable about the issues surrounding this important and evolving topic.

Peggy is still in the research phase of her new book detailing the sexual landscape and perceived expectations for boys, and spent some of her time on campus interviewing senior boys for this new project. Participation was not required, but many were eager to be involved.

Additionally, freshman Jack ONeill interviewed Ms. Orenstein about her career in journalism. His article, written for The Thacher Notes—the student newspaper—can be viewed here.
