21 Thacher Athletes Receive All-League/All CIF Awards

Coaches across the league recognize Thacher athletes for their effort, perseverance, and successes in the fall sports.
At the end of the season, league coaches vote for the students who will receive All-League/All CIF honors. While, these teams will never play together, they are the “dream teams.” This year, 21 Thacher athletes were so recognized for their accomplishments during the season.

Thacher’s cross country and volleyball teams competed in the Tri-Valley League this fall season. A large group of All-League awards went to the boys’ cross country team, which finished fifth in the state overall. Ford ’19 and Winslow ’20, were named to the first team and Jake ’20 and Augie ’21 to the second team. The girls’ cross country team also had a strong showing as two runners, Lily ’19 and Barkley ’21 made first team and Reyna ’21 made second team. About this honor, Lily said, “Barkley and I were both named to the All-League first team, and it feels really special to receive that honor with her. Training together every day, this definitely feels like something we accomplished together. I'm really proud of all the hard work we put into this season and of the contributions we were able to make to our team.”

Three volleyball players were acknowledged for their contributions this season. Libero Libby ’19 and outside hitter Chrissy ’20 made the first team and Jess ’19, a middle blocker, received second team honors. As one of two seniors to receive honors, Libby said, “I am honored to receive this award. I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to play with such great people these past four years; my coaches and teammates have made my volleyball career at Thacher one to remember.”

Girls’ tennis had players named to all three categories for the Frontier League: first team, second team and honorable mention. Jacqueline ’20 and Natalie ’22 were named first team and second team, respectively, for their singles play, while a set of seniors, Piper and Margaret, made second team as a doubles pair. A pair of juniors, Sydney and Tea, received honorable mention for their doubles play.

Eight man football is organized differently; since there are fewer teams, the teams play within the division, not leagues. Two Toads were names to the All-CIF team this year: Jackson ’20, who played outside linebacker and defensive lineman, and JJ ’19, who supported the team as  co-captain and played running back/ linebacker. Tyler ’20, Michael ’20 and Alika ’19 all received honorable mentions. JJ reflected on the award and his time on the Thacher team, “It was an honor receiving first team All-CIF for football. Football this year was particularly important to me because it was my senior year, so I made sure that I gave everything I had in every game I played. I’ve loved playing since freshman year. I had the opportunity to play varsity then and stuck with it through senior year, and it all paid off. It truly was an honor to receive this award.”

Congratulation to all the athletes who were honored for their accomplishments.
