“Seek Truth, Seek Mentors, Seek Service”
Former Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner shared takeaways from business and public service.
Philanthropist, businessman, and the former governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner, was the most recent lecturer in Thacher’s McCloskey Speaker Series. He spoke about his time in office as a Republican governor in a Democratic state and about his commitment to curbing corruption. His message to Thacher students was “get involved!” Mr. Rauner exhorted students to “seek truth, seek mentors, and seek service.”
“His message promoted the idea of leading with kindness and searching for the "whole truth," said James ’20. “Not the partial truth." Prior to his lecture in the Milligan Center, Mr. Rauner met over lunch with members of the Conservative Club. His talk was followed by a Q&A session in the Thacher Room.
Rauner is the parent of three Thacher alums, Libby CdeP 2002, Steffi CdeP 2004, and Katie CdeP 2016.
The McCloskey Speaker Series was made possible by a donation from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation, made with the goal of launching and underwriting the operational costs of the McCloskey Speaker Series in perpetuity at Thacher. The purpose of these talks is to bring high caliber, inspirational resources with a wide degree of expertise and interests to Thacher and to the Ojai community at large.
