Nadya Okamoto Lecture

Forbes 30 under 30Bloomberg 50 “Ones to Watch” and People Magazine's Women Changing the WorldWhat do all these lists have in common? Nadya Okamoto, and she'll be speaking with Thacher students.

Nadya Okamoto, women's health activist and founder (at the age of 16!) of PERIOD, a youth-run NGO fighting to end period poverty and stigma, was scheduled to speak on campus this week. Given our current circumstances, she has agreed to run a webinar for the Thacher community Wednesday, May 13th, starting at 1:00 p.m. with a Q & A to follow.

Maggie Sonenshine, whose Senior Ex researched the cultural stigma associated with menstruation considers Nadya to be a role model and will be introducing Nadya. "She is a role model of mine, and inspired me to do my Senior Ex on the menstrual taboo. I had the chance to meet her at PeriodCon last year, and was in awe of her journey and the good she has done through her organization, Period. Period inequality and poverty are prominent issues that get little airtime due to a lack of willingness to talk about menstruation, which is why it’s so important to hear what Nadya has to say to the Thacher community!
