Kim came to Thacher in 2011, after many years working in admission and financial aid at a Boston area day school where she was immersed in all aspects of school life. A native of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, she studied English, with an emphasis on journalism, at Providence College and later went on to earn a master’s degree in education, with a focus on race, class, and gender, from Tufts University. Close connections with students and peers make Thacher’s community a natural home for Kim, who especially loves the many opportunities to get to know students informally. Kim and her daughter live on campus.
Melanie works in the Admission Office here at Thacher. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Melanie made the trip west after graduating from North Carolina State University with a degree in sociology. She ultimately put down roots in Los Angeles, where she taught for three years at a small charter school in the West Adams neighborhood. Most recently, Melanie worked at Harvard-Westlake School on the admission team and, for the last four years, acted as the director of financial aid. In her free time, Melanie loves to hike with her husband and her dog, swim, ski, and enjoy the outdoors. She’s also excited to be closer to the beach so she can get back into surfing, but she will still make time for a good book and her knitting. Melanie is especially excited by the opportunity to get to know all of the great folks at Thacher. Acting as a student advisor, coaching, and hopefully getting involved in the Horse Program are a few of the things she looks forward to most.
