Director of Teaching and Learning

Seth Boyd
Since joining the Thacher community in 2017, Seth has chaired the English Department, directed the Senior Exhibition program, advised the Honor Council, coached mountain biking, and cleared miles of campus trails with his McLeod tool. He earned his BA and MA in English from the University of New Hampshire and his PhD in English Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Nevada where his doctoral research explored the critical intersections between Advanced Placement programs and college-level first-year composition programs. Prior to his arrival at Thacher, Seth taught at The Hill School and in St. Paul’s School’s Advanced Studies Program. Outside the classroom, Seth savors the opportunity to be out and about on Thacher’s campus: he leads the mountain program and, working side-by-side with a growing team of enthusiastic students, personally built and maintains the Goldmine, Thacher’s on-campus mountain bike park. He lives on campus with his wife Melanie Berner and son Arlo.
