From a Senior Ex to Serving the Greatest Good

More than decade ago, Douglas Land CdeP 2008 made his first foray into the world of urban planning when he explored the topic in his Senior Ex as part of a deep dive into the enduring influences of the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893.
While pursuing an urban studies major in college, Douglas’s advisor was one of the authors he had cited in his Senior Ex research and today he's still working in that space on behalf of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Recently, a high-profile project he's been focused on was featured in Fast Company. The project, located in the South Bronx, is notable for its scale and a novel approach to bringing cultural amenities, affordable housing, open space, and good jobs to a disinvested area. “In this particular moment, when we’re having conversations about equity and looking at investments in the outer boroughs, any opportunity where the city can partner with emerging nonprofits and organizations that are based in the outer boroughs and that serve residents of the outer boroughs, we should absolutely pursue,” says Douglas.
