• My primary Roles at Thacher

  I teach French and English, and I instruct in the Horse Program.

• When not in the classroom I can be found

  Riding my horse, playing the mandolin, or tutoring at the Todd Road jail in Santa Paula.

• Most memorable Thacher camping trip

  It’s a toss-up between two pack trips, one to the Sespe, the other to the Sierra, during which we lost some or all of our horses...As my colleague René Duykaerts kindly said when I returned from the Sierra excursion minus two equines: You haven’t truly horse packed until you’ve lost some horses in the backcountry. I will be forever grateful to René for that, and for the fact that we recovered the renegade horses two weeks later when they wandered into a cow camp at around 10,000 ft.!

• Favorite job perk

  Being paired with phenomenal horses.

• Favorite place at Thacher

  The Charles Horn House (where I live), which was built in 1865, and my son Brooke’s memorial boulder.

• Hardly anybody knows that

  The house in which I live is one of (if not the) oldest building in the Ojai Valley...

• Favorite place on earth

  Paris; La Bretagne; Provence; Cape Town; Ojai; and Peaks Island, Maine.

• The book, movie, work of art, or piece of music I cannot imagine life without

  Too many to name... books, movies, and music have been my solace and salvation.

• What I wanted to be when I grew up (when I was 10)

  A professional skier.

• What I want to do when I grow up (now)

  I now know that growing up is over-rated; it’s no longer on my to-do list.
