America's Love Affair with Prescription Medication: Amphetamine and Methylphenidate

Adderall is the drug of our time; in fact, its abuse rate is currently right below the threshold of the opioid epidemic. Between 2007 to 2012, the number of adults (age 20-39) with Adderall prescriptions tripled, expanding from 5.6 million to 16 million. Why is it the case that the United States diagnoses more citizens with ADHD and writes more prescriptions than any other country  in the world? In short, it is because our society has normalized the condition and promotes it throughout the media. My research delves into the ways that the American, capitalist marketplace has encouraged the use of prescription medication and normalized stimulant drugs.
