I knew I wanted to work at Thacher when
I saw how lovingly and joyfully the students interacted with two-year-old Gavin Snyder during my first visit to Thacher.

Most memorable Thacher camping trip
Recently, Mr. Snyder and I took a group to the Jennie Lakes Wilderness in the Sierra. On the second day of the trip, we hiked through snow, sleet, and freezing rain up to our campsite at Jennie Lake itself, only to find as we made camp that one of our four-man tents had failed. We made it through a cold, wet night and headed back to Thacher the next day, where we spent one night at Diamond Hitch before setting out to the Sespe for part two of our Spring EDT. On night number four, we enjoyed the beautiful view from the ridge overlooking Ojai, Ventura, and Santa Paula in conditions much different than those we'd encountered in the Sierra. At the end of the day, despite the setbacks, this trip had everything: we learned to tough it out in rough conditions far from home, and we also enjoyed the best of what the Sespe has to offer, right in our backyard.
Favorite place at Thacher
