For decades, Thacher’s Voit Gym has hosted girls' basketball teams that have enjoyed success by any standard—including league titles and a coveted CIF Championship. That said, the program has always gauged its sense of achievement on teaching sound fundamentals, creating tight-knit teams, and focusing on hard work, sportsmanship, and resilience in the face of tough obstacles. The players enjoy the benefits of a committed school community that fills the gym with energy, excitement, and strong support.
Perennial playoff contenders, the Toads typically play a challenging schedule in the competitive Tri-Valley League. Those back-and-forth contests harden the club and properly prepare them for the postseason. In fact, the Toads secured a thrilling CIF playoff win during the 2025 campaign when they came back from a 10-point, second-half deficit. Many players have received all-league accolades and some have gone on to play at the next level, such as Pomona-Pitzer in more recent times.
Whitney is passionate not only about teaching the fundamentals of the game on both an individual and a team level, but also about supporting girls in developing the strong work ethic, teamwork, communication skills, competitive drive, strength in the face of adversity, and sportsmanship that Thacher values so highly. With a lifelong love of the sport of basketball, fueled by having played at an elite level in both high school and college, she brings focus, dedication, experience, and fun to this program. As a student at Thacher Whitney was on the varsity team for four years and was captain for two, during which time the team earned two Condor league championships, one Southern Section championship and one runner-up to the Southern Section championship. She was also First Team All-CIF for two years. At Williams College she played on the varsity team all four years and served as captain during her senior season. The team took two trips to the NCAA tournament, including one trip to Sweet 16. She was named to the NESCAC All-Academic Team for two years, an honor available to juniors and seniors.
