School founder Sherman Day Thacher's favorite pastime was baseball, and ever since 1893, the School has fielded a team. As the story goes, that spring the Toads traveled roughly 20 miles to Santa Paula on a six-horse stagecoach for their first game. More than 130 years later, selfless teamwork remains a hallmark of the program, which also models sportsmanship, self improvement, and passion for the game.
These days Toad baseball flourishes in a beautiful setting at Bard Field, one of the nicest baseball complexes in Ventura County, where home games present a classic and traditional baseball environment. Good fortune has returned to the Toads in recent years; thanks to a dedicated coaching staff and committed and talented players, the team has earned three consecutive trips to the postseason.
