Alumni Day 2016

Alumni flock back to Thacher for a fun winter weekend.
Thacher welcomed alumni of all ages for our first on-campus shindig of 2016, Winter Alumni Day. Brisk weather and some sprinkles here and there didn’t deter anyone, including riders, shooters, or soccer players, from enjoying their visit back to Casa de Piedra.

Alumni and the varsity boys played a well-matched soccer game that ended in a 1-1 tie, while a rousing basketball game brought alumni a 49-39 win. At the Twin Peaks Trap Range students and alumni joined together for some light competition led by range masters Steve Kanaly (father of Quinn CdeP 1996 and Evan CdeP 1999) and Chris Van Son (father of Sarah CdeP 2015 and Toto '16). Students Michael Finch '16, Nick Johnson '16, and Brooks Walker '19 each shot 23/25 beating out the alumni for the first time in recent years.

Others stayed dry and warm in the dining hall conversing with faculty and friends; in the student commons playing table tennis, pool, and foosball, or having some silly fun in the photo booth; or in the gymnasium rock-climbing or cheering the basketball game.

The senior class gathered with alumni and their families for a delicious dinner at the Head of School's home—perfect for a large and diverse crowd—with Michael and Joy as well as a few faculty members. The atmosphere was cozy and lively with children playing in the living room, football fans cheering in the den, and great conversation all around.

Gratitude for the day goes out to the Alumni & Development Office, the Bon Appétit crew, the Gun Club, the (tireless) Buildings & Grounds Department, the Horse Department and their legions of student helpers, our esteemed dance and rock-climbing teachers, the varsity soccer and basketball teams and their coaches, and everyone who joined the festivities.

We encourage all alumni to put next year’s date, January 7, on their calendars and come back to Casa de Piedra!
