Holiday!

Celebrate!
The Thacher School has a longstanding and cherished tradition of awarding the students a well-earned one-day holiday each trimester. The exact timing of the holiday is always a closely guarded secret, and thus the object of intense student speculation.

The administration caught the students by surprise yesterday with the announcement of one such school holiday—a day of much appreciated rest and relaxation as the end of the winter term quickly approaches. Dean of Faculty Jeff Hooper and School Chair Elliot Schiff delivered the announcement with a reading of their email exchange relating to one of Elliot's initiatives–playing a requested song after Wednesday assemblies—followed by playing the song Holiday by Weezer. The student body erupted into cheers and celebrations. One student even declared it the best holiday announcement yet!

We celebrate this particular school holiday in honor of the December 28 birth of Max Elizabeth Grant Omansiek, who made a special appearance at Assembly.

After the class day and sports period ended on Wednesday, students enjoyed an informal buffet in place of formal dinner and a dance in the Commons. On Thursday, students had options: sleep in? ride the bus to town? read a good book? go for a hike? dive into some senior-ex research? That's the beauty of a holiday.

Rejuvenated, students and faculty will return to the classrooms on Friday to continue their good work until the end of the winter term and Spring Break.
