Here's to the Class of 2020!

The senior class readies for the next stage.
It's that time of year: Every Thacher senior can now rest easy knowing that they have solidified their college plans. After months of hard work with their college counselors—prepping for the SAT or ACT, building a college list that's right for them, writing application essays, deciding if and where to apply early, seeking financial aid, and continuing to focus on their academic, extracurricular, and leadership pursuits day in and day out—this batch of Thacher seniors has a matriculation list to be proud of.

"The Class of 2016 brought excellent talent to the admission table," offered Maria Morales-Kent, director of college counseling at Thacher. "We had five National Merit Finalists, 12 Commended Scholars, and two National Hispanic Recognition Scholars. We also had a senior recognized by the College Board for being one of just 55 students in the world to earn a perfect score on the AP Spanish examination. Additionally, one of our top scholars was the recipient of both the Robertson Scholarship at Duke and the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholarship at Notre Dame. These are highly competitive, national scholarships that cover tuition, room, and board, as well as provide students with stipends for summer enrichment."

Every year, Thacher's college matriculation list is a little different, reflecting the unique mix of personalities, interests, and goals of each senior class. This year, 66 percent of seniors were admitted to their first choice school; as of April 1, 89 percent of seniors had been admitted to one of their top three schools. It's exciting for the College Counseling Office and faculty to see our seniors gain admission to schools that, after much thoughtful research and self-reflection, the students believe will be a great fit for their needs and aspirations over the next four years.
