The U.S. Government’s Criminalization of Immigrants and its Impact on Citizen Children

In the 21st century, policing and noncitizen incarceration have proven to be prevalent strategies of immigration control in the United States. A country that claims to pride itself on being a ‘nation of immigrants’ implements policy that views this population as ‘deportable aliens’ and meets them with various forms of structural violence. Given immigrants’ historic integration and engagement in American society, these actions against the ‘deportable alien’ affect our own citizen children significantly.
