Senior Vespers

The seniors' final week begins.
One final formal dinner of the year where the community gathers to share a family-style meal, then the peaceful walk up the beautiful wooded path to the Outdoor Memorial Chapel and the reading of the names—a time-honored tradition on the eve of Memorial Day in which Thacher remembers those who sacrificed their lives for our country.

Students and faculty then file into the neatly curved rows looking out over the Ojai Valley as the sun sets behind the mountains. Katherine Halsey, selected by the senior class as the 2016 speaker, addressed the gathered crowd on the topic of memory and how it relates to what we know, who we are, and who we become in this life. In her speech entitled RicordareMs. Halsey congratulates the seniors on their accomplishments and encourages them to remember what they want to and need to from their time at Casa de Piedra.

The service also included personal readings by seniors Reade Rossman, Colin Troughton, and Elizabeth Zhang. Music by the String Ensemble and the Chamber Singers enriched the event and proceedings concluded with the traditional singing of The Banquet Song.

This week the students are in the midst of final exams and only a few short days away from the upcoming year-end celebratory events.
