A New Beginning

The 2016-2017 school year begins!
Not even two weeks ago, our newest Thacher Toads drove (or walked!) through the Casa de Piedra gates to start the new school year. Enthusiastic seniors greeted the new families and shepherded them around campus to various ritual checkpoints on the move-in day shuffle: stop by the dorm to unpack and get settled; visit the barns to get outfitted for riding; pop in at camp supply to pick up the necessary gear for the upcoming trip to Golden Trout; find your books and supplies at the student store (this is a school after all!); and many more.

Later that day, after a rousing presentation from Mr. Mulligan and the senior class in the Milligan Center for the Performing Arts, the new students made their way out to the barns to step their new boots into stirrups for a riding skills evaluation. (Most students arrive with little to no riding experience.) That evening, in Thacher's version of the Hogwarts Sorting Hat ceremony, the Horse Department would match the new riders to the horses who would be their equine companions for the coming year.

After a fond farewell to their families, students found their way to the New Field for a barbecue and the annual All-School Games. Less than 48 hours later, the campus emptied as the community departed on Extra-Day Trips. More on those adventures to come!
