Range of Light Wilderness Immersion Program

The Range of Light Wilderness Immersion Program, a three-week intensive wilderness learning experience in the Southern Sierras, offers students a unique mixture of leadership development, natural history education, wilderness skills training, and opportunities for profound self-reflection and personal growth. Each class of participants is comprised of Thacher students, non-Thacher high school students, and student bound for college with need-based scholarships available for all students.
Summer Work Opportunities
Students and wilderness professionals come to the southern Sierra Nevada for summer work at Golden Trout Wilderness School. Younger workers learn how to pack donkeys, use a crosscut saw, up their cooking game, and gain numerous other skills as they help maintain the facility and tend to programs. College-age employees, instructors, and volunteers help administer the programs and manage the younger staff. Everyone enjoys the magical experience of spending extended time in the sublime, subalpine summer Sierra.
