Girls soccer has thrived at Thacher since the School went co-ed in 1978. While there have been eight league championships since then, the girls who have participated in the program have counted their success on the field in more than games won. Thacher teams embrace hard work, fundamentals of the sport, and healthy competition as they play on the storied Upper Field under view of Ojai’s Twin Peaks. Whether a student hopes to perfect her instep drive or simply to learn what an instep drive is, there is room for all levels of experience in the program, as each year Thacher fields a JV and varsity team.
The varsity team has earned a CIF playoff berth each year since 1990; in 2005 the team made history by making it to the CIF quarterfinals for the first time ever, as well as capturing the league title. In 2009, the varsity team continued its run of successful play, making the tournament for the 19th consecutive year. Players from the Thacher program have gone on to play at such schools as Colby and Vassar.
