Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team Marches Through League Play Undefeated

Six wins, zero losses, and three league matches to go.
League play for the girls’ varsity basketball team began December 13 with a 39-24 win against Bishop Diego. Since then, under the coaching of Whitney Livermore CdeP 2004, the team has won all six of its games, giving them a solid first place standing. In fact, with only three games remaining, this position is unassailable. Here’s a look at their results so far:

12/13 vs Bishop Diego, 39-24
01/10 vs La Reina, 38-24
01/17 vs Bishop Diego, 26-25
01/19 vs Villanova Prep, 48-26
01/21 vs Providence, 54-16
01/22 vs Villanova Prep, 39-31

Their performances in these games have earned two Toads top-three league rankings in more than one category. Evan ’19 has made her mark with her defensive play. She is first in steals, averaging 4.6 steals per game and second in rebounds with 7.9 rebounds per game. Jessica ’19 has lead the Toads with her offensive play. Her field goal average is 34 percent, with 10.5 points per game and her free throw average is an impressive 59 percent. These stats have earned her third place in both categories league-wide. And, she is right behind Evan in rebounding, with 7.3 grabs per game.

Coach Livermore is thrilled to be working such a dedicated, supportive group of girls. “The team's success this season has come from a combination of top-notch senior leadership and a great deal of hard work and selflessness on the part of each of our players," she said. “The successes we are experiencing in games are a direct result of what is happening in practice: teammates supporting each other at the same time as they are pushing each other to improve. This is truly a team where the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts. It doesn't get more ‘Thacher’ than that!”

The final three games are all at home. If you are anywhere near Ojai, stop by to watch this impressive group of athletes play.

You’ll find their schedule on the Athletics section of the website.
