When thinking about this month’s Toad Blog, I asked my roommate what she as a perspective student had been most curious about. Her answer: day-to-day life. So while I know somewhere on the website is A Day in The Life, I’m going to write my own for you.
7:30- Roll out of bed, a rude awakening after two days of snoozing till noon
8:00- I make it to breakfast with plenty of time to spare. Mr. Elmore (sophomore dorm head and my history teacher) is the TOAD. He checks me in and I grab some breakfast. While it might be nice to have some more time to sleep in, breakfast check-in makes breakfast fun as everyone’s there and it’s a good way to wake up for the day ahead.
8:30- my first class is Latin. Today we’re working on a rather gruesome translation. There are only three of us in the class, so we all get plenty of time to practice translating; we finish up by talking about tomorrow’s verb quiz.
9:15- I head off to History, which might be my favorite class. Right now, we’re reading poetry about the Holocaust and discussing World War II. Today I can’t wait for the end though, because I’m eager to get my essay on the causes of World War I back.
10ish- After history I have a free, Emma and I study (or attempt to) for our chemistry test later, then Emma helps me do my morning job, which is to pass out the daily bulletin in the dining hall. We look over the sports schedule for the rest of the week: sadly, we can’t cheer each other on as our games are at the same time.
10:45- Assembly- An often hilarious break in our busy day, I grab a seat on the rock instead of the ground and prepare for Mr. Elmore’s ToadTalk.
11:20- I grab a quick bite to eat, and then it’s back to my room to study for Chemistry. I’m a little worried about it, but hopefully it will go well.
11:50- I head to the photo lab and roll my film. We have to be ready to develop by class. At the beginning of the year it took me almost 40 minutes to roll, but now I can do it in about ten.
12:15- In English we have just finished reading All Quiet on the Western Front. I loved it, though the ending was a little disappointing. We talked about the essays we’re starting tonight and discussed our reaction to the ending of the book.
1:00- I head to math, where we get our tests back and start discussing this week’s lesson. We’re studying functions right now.
1:45- I head to photo and develop my film. It takes the whole forty minutes and is a rather arduous process, but we talk about the weekend, the chemistry test, and sports which makes the time pass faster.
2:25- Finally off to take the dreaded chemistry test!
3ish- The test wasn’t too bad. I head back to my room and change for sports. On my way down to the tennis courts, I stop at the student store and pick up a package of Halloween treats from my dad.
5:00- I head back to the dorm, tired from practice, but feeling good. My strokes are definitely improving from the beginning of the season; tomorrow we’re going to work on match play.
5:45- This week I have to set up formal dinner tables, which means less time before dinner but it’s only one week out the year. On my way to the dining hall I stop at my mailbox and pick-up a brownie from one of my teachers.
6:15- We sit down for formal. Tonight’s dinner is pasta with garlic bread. It’s pretty good, and our conversation ranges to every possible topic.
7ish- A couple of friends and I head back to the dorm. I have a fair amount of homework tonight, so I’m going to get started early.
9:30- I head out to 9:30-10. It feels good to be out. Even though it’s a little chilly tonight, I chat with some friends and play a game of foosball.
10- At check-in we finish off the cookie dough and sun chips from this weekend’s munchout!
10:30- I wrap up the rest of my homework, then head to my friend's room for some socialization--then off to bed.
