Students Create Admission Videos

Three new films offer prospective families a fresh angle on the Thacher experience.
Recently, the Thacher Admission Office challenged current Thacher students to create their own short films to answer the question, “Why Thacher?” The result is a trio of student-produced videos intended to show prospective students what current Thacher students love about their School. You can view the videos at: www.thacher.org/threestudentfilms.

"I just wanted to show Thacher's true colors," explained freshman Elle Gannon from Hermosa Beach, California. "I really wanted to capture how much the students and faculty love living together and how much they just enjoy being at Thacher."

The guidelines were simple: In several minutes, show what you love about Thacher and what you think prospective students and their families should understand about the experience here. The contest was announced at an all-School Assembly and entrants were given two months to create and submit their films.

Speaking for a group of friends who collaborated on one of the films, Ana Urgiles '13 (Chicago, Illinois) explains, "
We wanted our film to be a genuine portrayal of Thacher students and their activities, through sports, classes, and riding. We wanted to show Thacher's welcoming community and what people most love about Thacher."

In the end, three videos were submitted and the judges loved all three. Contest coordinator and Associate Director of Admission Aaron Mieszczanski said, “Each group did a great job of not only capturing the great diversity of experiences at Thacher, and why our students love being here, but they also showed some impressive filmmaking skills!”
