Senior Exhibitions 2014

The students become the teachers.
Last weekend our seniors put down their pencils and notebooks to don the mantle of authoritative experts. The Senior Exhibition Program, led this year by the McGowans, allows our seniors to delve deeply into a topic of interest; they spend roughly six months developing and researching a topic of their choosing. This year saw some changes in the program. Students were allowed more time to develop and settle on a particular topic; they even had two evenings in the fall of "Senior Ex Speed Dating" where they could discuss their proposed topics with faculty members. In the winter, the English Department devoted four weeks of class time to the research phase of the exhibition process.

This year's Senior Ex projects reached their culmination the last weekend of April with two days of presentations. The weekend kicked off on Thursday evening after formal dinner, continued all day Friday, and closed after Saturday at noon. With sixteen time-slots, and three or four presentations in each, there was never a dull moment. The seniors really embraced their newly adopted role as educator and their presentations made for a remarkable weekend.
