False Memories in the Courtroom: Are Eyewitnesses Truly Reliable?

Nearly every American interacts with the court system at some point in their lives, and it is common knowledge that eyewitness testimony weighs heavily in determining the verdict and sentencing of cases on trial. However, when you consider the ramifications of inaccurate testimonies, the question remains: how reliable is eyewitness testimony, and how can false memories impact its accuracy? In my presentation, I will be explaining false memories as they pertain to the courtroom, as well as discussing the dependability—or lack thereof—of eyewitness testimony.
