Parents' pride in their children is a centuries-long phenomenon, but modern access to the media brings its own new set of risks and rewards associated with the posting of content containing children. The “sharenting” industry can act as a much needed support group for first-time parents, parents of children with disabilities, and anyone seeking out parenting advice, and while the capacity for “sharenting” to be harmless is significant, sharenting evolved into an industry full of fear, danger, and harm. However, parents still continue to film, post, and profit off of videos containing their children. The adults of social media are greatly divided by the issue of the choice to share or not, however the greater question remains: How are the children of “social media families” affected by their online presence?
