Hunger Awareness Month Volunteers

One in four Ventura County residents struggle with food insecurity. That’s why the volunteer work from Thacher community members is so vital to meet the needs of Food Share Ventura County, one of the largest hunger-relief organizations in the area. From their website, Food Share distributes 16 million meals annually to more than 250,000 people in Ventura County, and is a member of Feeding America and the California Association of Food Banks.

Recognizing the dire need within the region, Kara Hooper has been organizing and facilitating volunteer help from the Thacher community to support food distribution and general labor since February of 2022. Each and every month since then—even on school breaks—faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni within the Thacher community have helped out.

The video below from Food Share Ventura brings attention to Hunger Awareness Month 2023 and features Kara Hooper and her son, Hiram ’24.
