Sustainable investment firm attracts Toads.
This summer three recent Thacher graduates have joined Equilibrium Capital in San Francisco as summer interns. Manny Aruho, Stuart Brown, and Lukas Ceseña (all CdeP 2015) are helping to organize Equilibrium’s Fifth Annual Forum and conduct market research on sustainable food production. This trio is the latest in a growing list of Thacher alumni to work at Equilibrium. To date, Colin McMahon CdeP 2011, Lucas Currie CdeP 2012, Shane Griffee CdeP 2012, and Anouk Ackerman CdeP 2012 have all participated in Equilibrium’s internship program; and Colin has returned to work full time.
Equilibrium is a global asset management firm that develops and offers sustainability-driven real asset investment strategies and products for institutional investors. Equilibrium builds proprietary strategies in sustainable agriculture and food, renewable resources, and green real estate, and has gathered over $1.3 billion in assets on its platform. Current activities include permanent crops such as oranges and blueberries, wind and solar-generated renewable energy, anaerobic bio digesters that convert waste and wastewater into energy, and sustainable mixed-use apartment buildings.
What’s driving this annual Thacher migration to Equilibrium? Jay Pierrepont (father of Béa ’18 and Jack Cdep 2016), president of Asset Management at Equilibrium, says “It’s a natural combination. Equilibrium offers a great opportunity to get real life work experience in a fast growing, interesting sector of investment management, which builds on a lot of what Thacher teaches. Sustainability is at the core of everything we do, and I believe Thacher’s commitment to the outdoors fosters a similar value system in its students.”
